Alexandra David-Neel was the first European woman to meet the Dalai Lama and to enter the Tibetan capital, Lhasa. In the 1920s she journeyed through Tibet which was then a closed and mysterious world. Recording her discoveries, many of them extraordinary feats of magic and mysticism, she describes the Buddhist monks who live naked in freezing temperatures, who can run for days at a time, how they use telepathy and can defy gravity, and the physic sports practised.
